BW Cars

This is a disruptive aggressive deck that is looking to generate card advantage with cards like Dark Confidant and Pain Seer, while keeping its opponent’s key cards off line with discard spells and removal. It can also grind out card advantage inside of combo with recurring threats like Bloodsoaked Champion and Bloodghast. The “Car” part of our deck gets tied together with previous standard villain Smuggler’s Copter and Aethersphere Harvester

Tribal Zoo

This is an aggressive deck that is looking to pressure the opponent with efficient creatures like Wild Nactl, Mantis Rider, and Bloodbraid Elf. Once it gets the opponent low it looks to close the game out with reach via cards like Lightning Bolt and Tribal Flames.

Green Stompy

This is an aggressive deck looking to play honest creatures on curve and attack until our opponent reaches zero. The vast amount of green mana symbols in our creature’s casting costs allow us to leverage the very powerful combat trick Aspect of Hydra to steal games.

Humans

This is one of the best decks in Modern. It combines disruptive elements from cards like Kitesail Freebooter and Meddling Mage, along with the fast clock that Mantis Rider and Thalia’s Lieutenant provide to give itself a chance in most matches. The last thing humans was really missing was a source of card advantage, and with M19 it now has this in the form of Militia Bugler.

RB Hollow One

This is a deck that is best described as “weaponized variance”. It utilizes discard effects such as Burning Inquiry and Goblin Lore,  to quickly put cards like Hollow One and Gurmag Angler into play. It backs up this aggressive game plan with some recursive threats like Blood Ghast and Flamewake Phoenix to help you grind out interactive decks. You can read more about this deck on Channel Fireball here.

Gb Elves

This is my favorite aggressive deck in Modern currently. It plays a variety of mana dorks to accelerate into cards like Elvish Archdruid and Ezuri, Renegade Leader. Splashing black in our deck gives access to Shaman of the Pack which can let us kill our opponent through a stalled board. In games that go a bit longer this configuration of Elves can also generate card advantage with Collected Company and Lead the Stampede.

I have a full primer on this deck you can read on CoolStuff Inc here.

UR Tempo

This is an aggro-control, or “tempo”, deck. It looks to set its opponent behind with cards like Remand while applying pressure with evasive threats like Delver of Secrets and Nimble Obstructionist. Cards like Lightning Bolt and Wizard’s Lightning allow us to both control the board or close out games when our opponent’s health total gets low. You can read a bit about this history of this deck on CSI here as well as check out a primer after my run at SCG Indy here.
